Cupcake cake
Last night Christine and I spent roughly 5 hours or so making this cupcake cake for Amy and Telma’s birthday. The idea came from the Planet Cake book that was released early March and as soon as i saw it i knew i had to make it. What a coincidence that Christine was thinking the same thing!
As we were busy making the cake, i forgot to take progress shots but here’s how it turned out. Not bad if i say so myself

Ganaching the cake
The cake was chocolate mud which Christine baked earlier that week. We used a soccer ball tin to get the top section round.

Cupcake cake!
The finishing touch was the glazed cherry on top. Or as Marc would call it, the apple. Oh, and Genevieve thinks it’s a tomato LOL

Thanks everyone!
Chantal we made several cakes and stacked them then trimmed it to shape the cupcake

This is incredible! I love cupcakes and I love cake so this is like heaven!
Hi there,
Your cupcake cake looks fantastic! I also have the planet cake book and am going to make this for a birthday in 2 weeks. PC book advises to bake 1 cake and ganache the layers, but i dont see how i will get enough height! How many cakes did you use for the base?
Also, where did you find a soccer ball tin with an 18cm diameter? (the PC book uses an 18cm board for the width).
Thanks in advance,
Romina
Hi Romina,
Thanks for stopping by
We baked 2 square cakes, i think they were 8 inch each. Definitely ganache the layers though, it does add lots of height!
The soccor ball tin can be bought at cake decorating shops such as Cake Decorating Central in Castle Hill (if you’re from Sydney). If not, i think they also ship.
Goodluck with your cake!
Thanks for your feedback!! I ended up using a pyrex bowl as the soccer ball tins i found were either too small or too big for the 18cm base.
It was my first cake and I was really happy with it
You can check it out here…if you like. http://www.sweetened-with-love.blogspot.com/

I wish I had thought of this as a birthday cake! Very Amazing!
